Cuts Hurt Kids!

Yesterday Cuts Hurt Kids emailed asking for support. Here’s what they said about themselves:

The concept behind CutsHurtKids.org is a simple one: help bring unity among the grassroots resisters to budget cuts.
1. See what’s happening at other schools, and
2. if people know of an action to be added, they can submit links of online info/videos/pictures & we’ll map it.

California already ranks 47th in the nation in per pupil spending according to the 2009 edition of Quality Counts report.

That education should be further cut in a district where some schools have less than 50% “pushout” rates is an outrage.

A lot of people: students, parents, teachers, workers and communities are taking a stand against these budget cuts.  Leadership is not coming the top (e.g. union officers) but rather from the grassroots.  However, Los Angeles is a big place and a lot of actions/protests are not covered by the main stream media. [MizzB's emphasis]

That’s where the idea for CutsHurtKids.org came in.  A group of us LAUSD stakeholders (parents and teachers in this case) had the idea to map the grassroots resistance for everyone to see the bigger picture across the District.  A central place to see both how people are fighting back, and where.

Please check out their page, join them on twitter (or read their twitter feed here), forward their info to anyone who is interested in taking back the LAUSD budget.   Here’s a sample of their our tweets:

If you are taking action, put yourself on the map!

Send your info to: cutshurtkids@gmail.com

While I don’t think that more money is always the solution, I do want to support any and all efforts to wrest control of the union and district from entrenched bureaucrats!  Give Cuts Hurt Kids a look.
